That’s what Yukon’s middle school eighth grade football team has accomplished after two weeks of the season.
The Millers won their second game over an Edmond school Thursday night, rolling to a 34-12 win over Summit at Miller Pride Stadium.
The game was scheduled to be played in Edmond, but a schedule conflict late moved the game to Yukon and gave the Millers an extra home contest.
And, the Millers used that to get off to a strong start, scoring on their first play from scrimmage. That led to a 28-0 halftime lead and Summit was never really in the game.
“It definitely feels good to get off to a 2-0 start,” Miller coach Grant Potter said. “The kids feel good, the coaches feel good. It’s a great way to start off the school year.
“Our offensive line was dominant all evening,” Potter said. “In the second half we were able to get all of our kids some playing time.”
Jace Daniels took the opening kickoff and returned it 78 yards to the Summit five-yard line. Makari Slaughter scored the first of his three touchdowns on the next play from five-yards out.
Slaughter added a 48-yard touchdown run, Parker Means scored on a 35-yard run and Daniels from five-yards out to open a 28-0 lead.
Slaughter capped his three-touchdown night with a 23-yard scoring run in the third quarter.
In two games neither the seventh or eighth grade first team defenses have allowed a point.
“Our defense was outstanding again,” he said. “The only points given up were late and against our second team. Carson (Creech) and Josh (Hemphill) played well at linebacker and Austin (Johnson) had a good game on the defensive line.”
The Millers will host Edmond Cimarron on Thursday. The varsity kicks off at 7 p.m. and the junior varsity at 5:30 p.m.
Cimarron comes into the game with a 1-1 record after losing to Edmond Sequoyah 20-0 Thursday night. The Panthers beat Edmond Summit 34-8 in their season opener.
