By Chuck Reherman, Sports Editor – MUSTANG – Yukon’s unbeaten season came to an end Saturday, but the Millerettes shrugged it off and went on to bring home the third place trophy.

The Millerettes, 21-1-1, lost 14-2 to Westmoore in the semifinals of the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Tournament, Saturday morning at Wildhorse Park in Mustang. YHS came right back that afternoon and beat Edmond Deer Creek 6-1 for third place.

YHS had only four hits in the loss to Westmoore (a team the Millerettes beat 6-3 on Tuesday night and sweep the District 6A-2 series from), but came back in the third place game with 12 hits in rolling to the win over the Lady Antlers.

“We tried a few different things in the semifinal with Westmoore, ran in a new pitcher and give some other people some opportunities, and we didn’t play as well as we had been,” Millerette head coach Heather Shanahan said. “But, the team came back and played solid in the third place game and got the win.

“And, we have everything clinched, wrapping up the district title and the top seed in the regionals,” she said. “We won the important games, not saying these games were not important, but it won’t impact us as far as the regional tournament.”

The Millerettes are heading into the stretch run of the season. YHS hosts Putnam City in their final home regular season game. The district contest will be senor night.

YHS heads to the UCO Tournament on Thursday, has Edmond Santa Fe at Santa Fe and Mustang at Mustang. YHS will host the Yukon Festival on Sept. 29 to close out the season and then head to the regionals starting the first weekend in October.

The Milllerettes took control of the game in the opening inning and scored five of their six runs in the first three innings.

Breley Webb, who picked up the win on the mound, drove in three runs, including the first of the game.

Rylee Uhr and Chyenne Factor had singled around a sacrifice bunt by Hannah Hurtz, to put runners on first and third. Factor started to steal second, held up to try and draw the throw. The throw went to second, then to home to catch Uhr in a rundown. Uhr was eventually tagged out trying to score.

Webb then followed with a double to score Factor and Ashlynn Bruce singled in the second run of the inning.

The Millerettes added a run in the second on a sac fly from Uhr. Anna Icenhower had singled and advanced to third before Uhr’s fly ball to centerfield.

Webb slugged a two-run home run in the third to open a 5-0 lead. Factor had doubled to lead off the inning before Webb drove a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall.

Icenhower singled in the final run of the game in the fifth inning. Webb had been hit by a pitch and Icenhower’s base hit came with one out.

In the loss to Westmoore, the Lady Jags jumped out to a 5-0 first inning lead, led 6-0 in the second and added four more runs in the third and fourth. Yukon scored their two in the bottom of the second.
