YMS Miller runners sweep Yukon Invitational

By Chuck Reherman, Sports Editor – OKLAHOMA CITY – Yukon swept the boys divisions and finished in the top three in the girls at the Yukon Middle School Invitational, held at Woodson Park in Oklahoma City.

The seventh and eighth grade boys teams both had three runners finish in the top 10 in winning the overall title in their respective meet.

The eighth grade Millers edged out Edmond Deer Creek 51-57 for the team title. Piedmont finished third in the nine-team field with 78 points.

Jonah Hanscom had the top finish for the Millers, running fourth place in 11:56.36 over the two-mile course. Eli George finished sixth in 12:13.15 and Gilberto Gonzalez was ninth in 12:69.90.

Andrew Daggs finished 13th (11th in the scoring) in 12:31.73 and Ivan Ramirez was 24th (21st in scoring) to round out the Miller scoring. Cade Parent, 25th overall and 22nd in scoring in 12:49.03 and Philip Shand, 29th overall and 26th in scoring in 12:55.53, rounded out the top seven for the Millers.

The seventh grade Millers bested Stillwater 33-48 to win their division. The Millers had three runners finish in the top five and their five scorers all finished in the 15.

Maximus Marler won the individual title, running a two-mile time of 12:27.29. Benjamin Tess finished fifth overall and third in the scoring in 12:54.22. Cory Pope was sixth overall and fourth in scoring in 12:58.01.

Logan Knott ran 14th overall, 12th in scoring in 13:22.30 and Manuel Avalos was 15th overall, 13th in scoring in 13:31.84 to round out the YMS scoring. Hayden Griffin finished 18th, 16th in scoring in 13:42.82 and Kyle Hobbs was 24th, 20th in scoring in 14:01.11 to round out the team.

There were eight teams in the field, but several schools sent individual runners that factored in the race finishes, but not the team scoring.

The seventh grade Millerettes finished second in their division with 38 points. Deer Creek won with 31.

The Millerettes had four finishers in the top 10, five in the top 15 and all seven in the top 20.

Rena Henson had the best finish for the Millerettes, running third in 14:00.28. Emily Schneider was fifth in 14:07.92 and Kailan Parks was eighth in 14:123.16. Gracen Hoke placed 10th in 14:20.23 to round out the scoring.

Braelyn Parker, 18th in 1511.06 and Harper Barlow, 19th in 15:28.03, rounded out the team.

The eighth grade Millerettes finished third in their division. Deer Creek won with 37 points, Piedmont second with 40 and YMS third with 51.

The Millerettes did have the individual champion and two runners finished in the top 10.

Avery Stanley won the individual title in 13:17.65 over the two-mile course. Makenna Hickman was ninth overall, seventh in scoring in 14:15.18.

Saige O’Grady placed 13th overall, 11th in scoring in 14:47.07, Audrey Boyd was 13th overall, 15th in scoring in 14:57.95 and Avery Turner rounded out the scoring, finishing 22nd overall and 17th in scoring in 15:23.77. Daci Bowers, 25th overall and 20th in scoring in 15:36.93 and Orianna Ortiz 28th overall and 23rd in scoring in 16:16.34, rounded out the team.
