Lucille “Lucy” Ruzicka

Lucille “Lucy” Ruzicka passed away at her home near Yukon on Tuesday morning, January 23.

She was born October 31, 1928 near Mishak, OK, to John and Rose Zaloudik. She graduated from Midwest City High School and went to work at the telephone company in OKC.

For entertainment, she and her siblings enjoyed the Saturday night dances at Czech Hall in Yukon, and at one of those dances she met her husband of nearly 62 years, Rudy Ruzicka. They married June 1, 1953 and were members of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon.

They lived together on the family farm until Rudy’s death in 2015, and Lucy was known for her large garden and immaculate lawn. She took great pride in doing her own mowing, and was very particular about it. She loved being outside “piddling” with this or that and was very spunky and independent.

Lucy was also known for being an excellent cook and baker. Kolaches were her specialty and she never backed down from a request to bake them. Lucy enjoyed sewing and was very talented at that as well.

Lucy went to work for the Yukon Public School system as a cook in one of the elementary cafeterias in the 1970s and worked her way up to manager at the newly-built Skyview Elementary. When her granddaughter was born, she took early retirement to care for her, which was a testimony to her caring, giving heart. She was thoughtful, considerate, and always had a big, welcoming smile ready to share.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Osterman and husband Danny; granddaughter Jessica Gore and husband Justin; sisters Elizabeth (Max) Kolar, Lillian (Stanley) Kolar, Amalie (Neil) Wilson, Rosalie Elliott, and Mary Ann Nickel; brother, Paul (Cathy) Zaloudik; and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Preceding her in death were her husband Rudy; son, David; parents, John and Rose Zaloudik; and brothers, Wesley Zaloudik and John Zaloudik.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, January 26 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon, with interment at Frisco Cemetery. Friends may sign the online guest book at http://www.smith-turnermortuary.com. Services under the direction of Smith & Turner Mortuary.
