Lewallen places 8th in NCAA Championships

CLEVELAND, OH – Yukon’s Boo Lewallen finished in eighth place at the NCAA Wrestling Championships, held at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Lewallen finished 3-3 in the tournament. He lost in the seventh place match to Jason Tsirtsis of Arizona State, 2-1. Lewallen finished the season with a 29-8 record.

Lewallen beat Oklahoma’s Davion Jeffries 7-3 in the opening round, then decisioned Northern Iowa’s Max Thomsen 10-6 in the second round.
That sent him to the quarterfinal round against the No. 1 seed, Zain Retherford of Penn State. Retherford, 34-0, beat Lewallen by technical fall (20-2) in 5:00.

In the consolation round, Lewallen came back to decision Justin Oliver of Central Michigan 9-4, but in the match to reach the fifth place match, he lost to Brandon Sorenson of Iowa, 13-3.
