Obituary: Thomas Yohannan

1411

Thomas Yohannan, fondly known as Johnachayan, was born on May 20, 1948 to late Mr.

Yohannan and late Mrs. Thankamma Yohannan (Chavadiyil House) in Pooyappally,

Kollam, Kerala, India.

His father was called to eternity when Johnachayan was only

14 years old, so he joined the Indian Military when he was sixteen years old in

order to support his mother and help raise his younger siblings. He worked in various

parts of Northern India and later joined the Department of Legal Metrology in Kerala.

He was joined in Holy matrimony to Podiyamma Thomas (Tharakan Family, Kundara)

on May 26, 1975 in Pooyappally, Kerala. They were blessed to be married for 43

years. The Lord blessed them with three children.

Thomas was raised in a Marthomite family. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal

Lord and Savior in 1981, and in the same year obeyed the Lord’s command by taking

water baptism. The Lord filled him with the Holy Spirit and ever since then, he had been

worshipping the Lord in spirit and truth. He was a faithful witness for the Lord until he

was called home.

Along with his family, he was a faithful member of the Sharon Fellowship Church, Pooyappally. He practiced “To serve God, is to serve others.”

Thomas migrated to Oklahoma 2007, where his son and family were settled. He was a member of Sharon Fellowship Church, Oklahoma. While residing in

Yukon, he was actively involved in the Indian Pentecostal community. He attended many

meetings and conventions and supported various ministries both here and in India. He

had a very humble, loving spirit, and was loved by everyone he encountered. He had a

routine of waking up at 4’o clock in the morning and praying for almost 2 hours on his

knees, with both hands raised up in the air. He set a great example for his children and

grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his big heart to anyone who came in

contact with him, and how he always showed compassion to the poor and neglected. He

enjoyed meeting and spending time with new people which lead him to be a part of the

customer service at his son’s business. He loved every bit of it! Some of his interests

included watching Asianet news, keeping up with the local status of Kerala, and dialing

his friends from there. Despite his health issues, he continued his strict workout

regimen, started during his military days. He was a man of faith, prayer, discipline, hard

work and perseverance.

Johnachayan was called home to glory on Thursday, March 29, 2018 surrounded by his

family. He was 70 years old.

He is survived by his wife Podiyamma Thomas, son Thejus P Thomas & his wife Preethy Thomas, daughters Blessy Binu Philip & her husband Binu Philip (UAE) and Gladxy Sanjoe and her husband Sanjoe Babu(Ireland). He loved his children’s spouses as his own. Because of this, he was loved by all just as much. He also enjoyed time with his 11 grandchildren Dawn, Faith, Irene, Amaze, Abel, Ethan, Esther,

Ezekiel, Yohan, Nyna and Noel.

He was preceded to eternity by two of his siblings, Y. Philipose and Molamma John and is survived by three sisters Kunjumol Alex, Elsy Tharakan and Gracey Rajan.

While our dear Johnachayan will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing that he is

basking in the presence of our Lord, worshipping him face to face. Let the blessed hope

comfort us in this sorrowful time. We humbly request your prayers.
