SWCS reaches Binger-Oney finals

BINGER – Southwest Covenant will play for a tournament title for the second time this season as the Patriots have reached the finals of the Binger-Oney Invitational.
The Patriots will play Fort Cobb in the finals at 5 p.m.
The Patriots reached the finals after beating the host team Binger-Oney 5-3 in the semifinals. SWCS opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Hobart.
Grayson Wilbanks’ two-run scoring single in the top of the fifth inning gave SWCS a 5-2 lead and the Patriots turned away Binger in the final three innings to secure the win.
Jesse Deason had walked and Ben Webb and Andrew Hickman were hit by pitches before Wilbanks’ two-run scoring hit.
SWCS had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Trevor Kelly drew a bases loaded walk and Hickman hit into a fielder’s choice that scored the second run. Sam Webb and Will Haas had both singled and Ben Webb walked to load the bases.
The Patriots had made it a 3-1 game in the second after Wilbanks had singled and scored on a two-out error.
Wilbanks had led the hitting with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

Sam Webb’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and sent the Patriots to a 3-2 win over Hobart in the opening game.
Hickman had singled and Cole Shaw and Logan Shields had both reached on errors to load the bases before Webb’s base hit.
Deason shut down Hobart in the seventh inning. He went the distance on the mound and allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five.
The Patriots had trailed after Hobart scored two runs in the second inning, but tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles from Deason and Ben Webb. Sam Webb and Haas had drawn walks with two out before the RBI hits.
