Following a short search process, Yukon will hire a high school softball head coach Monday night.
The Yukon School Board is expected to approve the candidate at their meeting which begins at 7 p.m.
For YHS athletic director Mike Clark it has been a busy summer that he is hoping comes to an end once the new softball coach has been named.
The athletic director has hired two new golf coaches and said the hiring process for assistant coaches is about complete.
“We have been through a few (resumes) of them this year,” Clark said. “We lost one of our girls assistant basketball coaches this week, so we have that and one more softball assistant coach (to replace Dakota Haines, who took the head baseball coaching position at Southmoore) and a soccer boys assistant to fill.
“It has been a crazy year in hiring coaches,” he added. “We are in pretty good position right now, just have some paperwork to finish up and we will be ready to start things all over again.”
Clark was wanting to have a new softball head coach hired by July 4 to replace Heather Shanahan, who resigned in early June to take a teaching position at a private school and spend more time with family.
“We knew we needed to fill the position as soon as possible with the best candidate ,” Clark said. “Softball starts their pre-season practices on July 16 and they start playing in early August.”
The Millerettes will open pre-season workouts in a week and get two weeks of practice before scrimmages. The season starts in early August.
