Yukon’s freshman Millers will open the season Monday, hosting Edmond Memorial.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Miller Stadium.
The Millers are looking to take an explosive offense into their season opener against a Memorial team that can present a challenge.
“Our expectations are high for this team going into the season,” freshman head coach Aaron Dillard said. “The players have figured out this is a serious environment and have adjusted to it.
“We are looking for some good things going into the opener,” he added. “We still have a lot of work to do to get ready for the opener.”
The Millers will bring in an explosive offensive running attack that will be led by runningback Makari Slaughter and Parker Means. Carson Creach and Joe Wythe will give the Millers an inside running presence.
Quarterback Brayden Dutton will engineer the offense and can run the option attack as well as throw the ball.
“The key for us is that we have to have fewer mental busts offensively,” Dillard said. “Defensively, we have to be better at tackling and limiting big plays.”
The Millers tuned up for the opener with a scrimmage against Edmond Santa Fe.
Both teams scored in the scrimmage.
“Overall, the scrimmage went well,” Dillard said. “We saw some good things, but saw some areas that we need to improve on.
“We ran the ball well on offense, but we expect to since we consider that our identity,” he said. “We also did a good job of taking care of the ball and had very few fumbles, which is always encouraging. We did score several touchdowns, but we also have up touchdowns and we need to work on getting better on defense.”
