Police seek kidnapping suspect

Yukon police continue to search for a suspect in a kidnapping that occurred Thursday night.

The suspect, identified as Adrian Lejya Vargas, of Yukon reportedly abducted a woman near the 300 block of Yuhoma Drive. A 911 call informed police the woman, who was not identified by police, was forced into a red Ford pickup that traveled south on Cornwell Avenue.

Another witness called 911 and to report the erratic driving of the suspect. Yukon police intercepted the pickup and tried to stop the vehicle but the driver continued to flee west at NW 10th and Cornwell Avenue.

During the pursuit, the woman jumped from the vehicle in the 12400 block of NW 10th, police reported. She was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in critical condition. Her condition was upgraded to stable, police said.

Yukon police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers continued the chase as the suspect traveled south on Cemetery Road. The pickup crashed near 12500 S. Cemetery Road in Mustang where the suspect bailed out and began running from police. Law enforcement officers from several agencies, with the assistance of K-9 units, searched for the suspect.

The search was eventually called off.
