Sixteen winners will have their names selected in a drawing next Monday that culminates the Yukon Chamber of Commerce’s annual holiday retail promotion.
The Yukon Yuletide Express “Departure Party” kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 in the parking lot of the Event Center at 10 West Main.
“This is a great way to culminate the exciting year we’ve had at the Yukon Chamber,” Chamber Chief Executive Officer Pam Shelton said.
A total of $5,500 in “Santa Bucks” will be given away to lucky shoppers who entered the drawing.
“Make sure your names and phone numbers are on your tickets,” Shelton said. “We’ll start the drawing around 6:35 or 6:40.
“You have to be present to win, and you must have an ID.”
Shoppers have received drawing tickets while visiting and spending money at participating Yukon Yuletide Express merchants during the six-week event. The more people spent at a Yuletide Express business, the more tickets they were eligible to receive.
The 2018 Yukon Yuletide Express, designed to encourage shoppers to spend money at local retailers, launched Nov. 2 and ended Friday.
There will be two $1,000 awards, three $500 awards, six $250 awards, and five $100 awards for a total of 16 prizes.
Award winners must spend their “Santa Bucks” by Feb. 28, 2019 at participating Yukon Yuletide Express stores.
“This way we ‘keep it local’,” Shelton said.
Other highlights of next Monday’s Departure Party will be free rides for children on the Yukon Yuletide Express train, photos with Santa Claus and pet adoptions with the Bella Foundation.
Attendees will be encouraged to shop stores at the Event Center at 10 West Main and the downtown area.
The Yukon Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 holiday shopping extravaganza attracted a record 68 business participants, beating the previous high of 67 in 2013. The Yukon Chamber began this retail promotion in 2008 with 52 participants.
