Jerry Donald Ellerbee, 81 years old of Yukon, died on February 17, 2019 at home after a long illness.
Born January 16, 1938, in Port Arthur, Texas to James Dreebon and Clara Doris (Simmons) Ellerbee, Jerry spent most of his youth in Wells, Texas. He graduated from Wells High School in 1956. He married Barbara Linda Johnson, his high school sweetheart, on August 22, 1956.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and served in South Korea until discharge in 1959. Jerry and Linda moved between Oklahoma City, Yukon, and Wells multiple times. Jerry worked for National Foundation Life, Standard Life, American Liberty Life and Investors Trust Assurance companies in Oklahoma and Texas before retiring.
Elected as mayor of Wells, Texas for three terms, Jerry secured several grants for the city including one to restore the city park. Jerry actively participated in churches, including Falvey United Methodist Church, Wells and First Christian Church, Yukon. Jerry and Linda moved back to Yukon in 2010, rejoining their children and grandchildren.
Jerry was an avid fan of University of Oklahoma Sooner football and Oklahoma City Thunder basketball.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and one child, Jerry Clayton Ellerbee.
He is survived by his sister, Judith Davies of Waco, Texas; his wife of 62 years, Barbara Linda; two children and their spouses, Jerry L. and Susan Ellerbee and Deanna and Doug Harvey; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and six nephews. He looked forward to the birth of two more great-grandchildren later this year.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, Yukon, followed by burial at Yukon Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Yanda & Son Funeral Home, Yukon, on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from noon to 8:00 pm with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Online condolences may be signed at http://www.yandafuneral.com.
