Loyd Eugene Schweitzer, 84, departed this life on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in El Reno, OK. He was born March 18, 1934 in Calumet, OK, a son of the late Joseph “Joe” and Sophie (Reimers) Schweitzer.
He married Carol (Kastner) on August 24, 1955, sharing 63 ½ years of marriage. Together they enjoyed family gatherings, attending Air Force Reunions and dancing at the Moose Lodge.
He loved airplanes, spending many hours building his own model airplanes and dreaming of flight. This interest in aviation and aircraft carried over to his service in the United State Air Force from 1953 – 1961, where he was an aircraft mechanic. After his military service, he worked for the FAA, retiring in 1989 as a Quality Control Supervisor and on the verge of obtaining his pilot’s license.
After his retirement, he managed his rental properties and enjoyed the coffee group at Snyder’s and later McDonald’s.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mark Stover and brother, Roy Schweitzer.
Loyd is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Doug Schweitzer and wife Robin; daughter, Debbie Stover; daughter, Diana Hale; grandchildren: Ryan Schweitzer and wife Rebekah, Dustin Stover and wife Tess, Tanya Gutierrez and husband Chris, Jesse Paxton and wife Rachel, Renee Kerby and husband Kasey, Matt Stover, Jordan Stover, Emily Hale and Dylan Stover and eleven great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2019 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Yukon, followed by Wake and Rosary services at 6:30 p.m. Loyd’s celebration will continue with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, with interment following at the Yukon Cemetery.
