Around 4:30 p.m. firefighters responded to 825 Yukon Blvd where a detached garage erupted into flames.

Thick, black smoke wafted across the sky as the fire consumed at least two cars inside the garage. No injuries were reported as of 5:20 p.m. and the fire had not traveled to nearby homes.

A witness at the scene said her husband’s car was inside where the owner of the garage uses it to work on cars.

“Mr. McKinney, he was working on my husband’s vehicle and it’s gone now,” said Tony Bowden. A second vehicle was also in the garage. Bowden said their vehicle isn’t insured.

McKinney did not want to comment on the accident.

A neighbor, Said Mohamud said he was watching TV when he realized something was wrong.

“I was lying on the couch, and I thought, ‘what is that?'” he said. “The cable went out. All of a sudden I see the smoke. It was like electricity, going boom, boom, boom.”

A video of the fire is available to view on the Yukon Progress Facebook page.
