Obituary – Chester Mayo Spears

Chester Mayo Spears

Our Lord and Savior called our Father, Chester Mayo Spears home on April 29, 2019 in Norman, OK. He was born to Rosa and Marion Spears on January 29, 1935 in Granite, OK.

After graduating from Granite High School, he received a scholarship to play basketball for Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK. Not only did he play basketball, but was also recruited to play football and baseball. A three sport star athlete, he competed for four years. That explains a lot… He finished with a Bachelor’s degree.

Chester was in the Army National Guard, and coached football, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of Oklahoma City Lions Club, Moose Lodge, and a member of Christ’s Church of Yukon.

Chester was always willing to help people and loved being around kids. He started a janitorial business to help students in need.  After he retired and at 73, he took a job with Yukon High School.  He was irreplaceable, generous, caring, funny and ornery.

Chester lived 57 years in Yukon with his wife Jewell, who passed away in 2014. He is also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Pruitt in 2004, as well as 14 siblings.

Chester is survived by his children: Steven Spears, Vernon Pruitt and wife Renee, Connie Kach and husband Greg, and Annette Featherstone; grandchildren: Hadley, Bailey, Neeley, Tara, Connor, Alex, Kathryn, Sheri Ann, Timothy, Heather, Westley, Clint, and Blake; six great grandchildren and brothers: Jerry and wife Ruthie and Jim and wife Pat.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 10 at Christ’s Church of Yukon, 620 W. Vandament Ave., Yukon, OK.
