Leona Black was born on March 11, 1928 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Burt and Dorthy Mitchell.
Leona passed into the arms of Jesus, her personal savior and best friend, early on the morning of May 2, 2019.
Leona and late husband Andrew Black were proud longtime Yukon residents since making their home here in 1946. She was a proud member of Yukon First Assembly of God Church, now known as Discovery Church with over 70 years of faithful service and attendance.
Her heart and passion was the ministry of her church, where she served many roles through the years including greeter, 55 and older group, and was one of the founding members of the Ambassadors team.
She enjoyed contributing and volunteering in Helping Hands at the Yukon Public Schools for 25 years. Leona was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a faithful and hardworking employee of Altec Lancing for over two decades.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Bohannan and husband Ron, and Gail Johnson and husband John; son, Carl Ray Black and wife Carol; 5 grandchildren: Jeff Bohannan and wife Stacey, Craig Bohannan and wife, Rachel, Kristina Teague and husband Bryan, Bryce Johnson and wife Emily, and Alesha Schwarz and husband Brian; 17 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Parker, Kelsea, Asia, Hannah, Lauren, Blair, Gabrielle, McKinley, Talley, Mitchell, Asher, Megan, Garrett, Katie, Carter, Brooklyn, and 3 great-great grandchildren, Eli, Carson, and Nathan.
Viewing will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 from noon – 8 p.m. at Yanda & Son Funeral Home, Yukon, OK. Services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Discovery Church in Yukon, OK, with interment following at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
