Vernita C. Taylor, 80, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at her home in Yukon, OK, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born January 8, 1939 in Geuda Springs, KS.

She attended Lawton High School, graduating as the valedictorian in 1957. She then attended the nursing program at the Oklahoma Health Science Center and became a Registered Nurse. Vernita then spent 42 years dedicating her life to nursing, working in OB, Emergency, Doctors offices, Rehabilitation and as Director of Nursing at Spanish Cove. She also worked in the area of medical insurance and marketing.

Vernita then found great joy working in childcare for Yukon Schools and then First Baptist Church in Yukon for 12 years. Vernita loved being a substitute teacher for her son, Mr. A, and always share “Moments with Mom”.

Vernita was a proud, loving, and caring mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. Known by all as “Mom”, she loved her family and those she lovingly took in.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Cecile Hammond, father, George Hammond and sister, Joyce Bradley.

Vernita is survived by son, Kevin Andrews and Debbie Holliday of Wichita, KS; son, Darryl Andrews of Yukon; daughter, Marsha Goines of Yukon; six grandchildren: Logan and Aaron Morris, James and Lacey Andrews, Ashley Palmer, Matthew Palmer and Caden Andrews; one great granddaughter, Sailor Morris as well as numerous honorary grandchildren.

Celebration of Life services was held Saturday, June 22 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Lawton, OK.
