Bonnie James “Jim” McCoy of Yukon passed from this life on September 13, 2019 after battling lung cancer since his diagnosis in February 2019. He was grateful to his life partner of 23 years, Rhonda Hubbard Long, who cared for him through his final days.
Jim was the youngest of six children born to Thomas Pierce and Jennie Louise Beaird McCoy. He was born in Haworth, OK on May 29, 1932. After graduating from Idabel High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an instructor for three years during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Southeast Oklahoma Teachers College and later obtained his Masters Degree.
Jim worked as a Math and Shop Teacher in California and Oklahoma until his retirement from Yukon Public Schools at which time he worked for the Department of Human Services as a Social Worker until his second retirement.
Jim was the father of Lisa Roxanne McCoy Mueller, James Earl “Jim” McCoy, Kimberly “Kim” Beth McCoy, and Joel Todd McCoy; stepfather to Clarissa Long Mitchell. He was grandfather to Amy Elizabeth “Beth” Ryan Cifuentes, Seth Stanley Mueller, and Caitlin Hannah McCoy; step-grandfather to Alexandria ”Lexie” and Ainsleigh Mitchell; great-grandfather of Silas Cifuentes. He was a surrogate father and grandfather to many.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Claude, Pierce, and Pete; sisters, Emma and Estelle, and daughter, Roxanne. He is survived by his life partner, Rhonda; three children, Jim and wife Debbie, Kim, and Todd; stepdaughter, Clarissa and husband John Mitchell; grandchildren, Beth and husband Jefferson, Seth and wife Allie, and Caitlin; step-granddaughters, Lexie and Ainsleigh; and great-grandson Silas, as well as numerous loved ones and friends.
Jim had a great love for animals and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Pets and People, P.O. Box 850587, Yukon, OK 73085.
Pallbearers will be Seth Mueller, Jefferson Cifuentes, John Mitchell, Josh Lytle, Jordan Lytle and Russell Rains.
A Celebration of life will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Yanda & Son Funeral Chapel, Yukon, OK, with interment to follow at the Yukon Cemetery, Yukon, OK.
