Yukon police found themselves on a high-speed chase Monday morning that led to one arrest and a damaged patrol vehicle.

An officer attempted to stop a white Kia four-door for speeding in 500 block of S. Ranchwood Boulevard around 12:15 AM. The driver, Matthew George Hayes, 30, of Tulsa, sped up “at a high rate of speed,” a prepared statement shows.

Police followed the driver east on Route 66 toward Bethany until a tactical move forced the Kia into a ditch west of Rockwell Avenue. The car rolled over on its top but neither Hayes nor his passenger were injured. Hayes “displayed signs of intoxication,” the statement reads. The car had been reported stolen.

One police car sustained minor damage. Hayes was taken to the Canadian County jail where he was booked on several complaints including DUI, speeding, attempting to elude police, auto theft and driving with a suspended or revoked license. His bond was set at more than $16,000.

Hayes pleaded guilty to petite larceny in Wagoner County last April where he served 18 days in jail and was ordered to pay court costs.
