The earliest season opener for Yukon’s Millerette basketball team comes Friday.
YHS will host three teams in the inaugural the Millerette Festival Friday and Saturday at the YHS gym.
The Millerettes will host Oklahoma City Northwest Classen, Oklahoma City Douglass and Destiny Christian in the two day festival.
The Millerettes will play Douglass at 6 p.m. on Friday and faces Northwest Classen at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
“We are excited about playing a game after all these scrimmages,” YHS head coach Roy Wyckoff said. “It will allow us to get a couple of games in before we start conference play. I didn’t want our first game to be at Norman North after the Thanksgiving Break.
“I wanted us to get some games in before playing Norman North and playing these games will allow us to work some things out that we need to,” he said. “I think they are ready to play a game. We still have some things to work out and we have a long ways to go, a couple more things we want to put in. But, they are kinda of tired practicing and are ready to play.
“We are getting close to getting the line-up set. We are a work in progress, but we are getting there.”
The Millerettes wrapped up their scrimmage season with a workout against Lawton Eisenhower at El Reno at Yukon.
Lawton Ike is pre-season ranked No. 5 in class 5A and El Reno is No. 6.
“I was really pleased that we kept both teams in single digits in every quarter, they are both very good teams,” Wyckoff said. “Our offensive ball movement and patience was the best it has been all pre-season. Last week, it was very stagnant and we emphasized it a lot this week and the girls came out and did a good job of moving the ball and making the defense move. I felt 90 percent of our shot were good decisions and that was encouraging.”
