The 25th annual production of Yukon’s “Nutcracker” will be danced this weekend.
Central Oklahoma Ballet will present the holiday classic at 8 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 7 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 inside the Yukon Fine Arts Center, 850 Yukon Ave.
“It’s a timeless classic,” said Debra Vossen, artistic director for Central Oklahoma Ballet. “For many people in Yukon and across central Oklahoma, our Nutcracker is a holiday tradition they look forward to every year.
“It will be a delight!”
For the past 25 seasons, Central Oklahoma Ballet has staged this grand production featuring national and international guest artists from major dance companies.
“Most of the guest artists this year are new to our Nutcracker production,” Vossen said. “We have dancers coming from Arizona Ballet, Tulsa Ballet and Oklahoma City Ballet.”
The professionals will take the Yukon stage alongside local youth and adult performers.
Yukon’s Nutcracker production will be accompanied by the Oklahoma Community Orchestra conducted by Irv Wagner.
“We have newly painted backdrops, a new sleigh and some new costumes,” Vossen said. “There will be something new for everybody.”
Performances are publicized across central Oklahoma and attract a regional audience.
Tickets to Yukon’s Nutcracker are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
“It’s nice that we can present these performances at an affordable price,” Vossen said.
The Central Oklahoma Ballet production of The Nutcracker is supported by the Oklahoma Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, and various corporate and individual donors.
