The City of Yukon has announced the opening of a new 12,000 square foot animal control facility. After an open house event on Saturday, Jan. 25, the facility will officially open on Monday, Jan. 27 at 701 Inla Ave. – Unit A.

The building consists 40 dog runs and 86 cat condos, with separate rooms for quarantined, stray hold, and court hold animals. It will also host adoptable cats and dogs and has separate “meet and greet” rooms for them.

A new building isn’t the only change happening at Animal Control. Owners now have a simpler number to call to get in touch with them: 350-4PETS (4738). The old number will still transfer over to the new line.

The division also has a new software that better allows them to keep accurate records of each animal that enters the facility.

The software retains microchip, veterinarian and owner information, as well as photos and previous contacts with the animal. This will be especially helpful with repeat strays.

The public is invited to the grand opening, which takes place Saturday, Jan. 25, from 1-5 p.m.

Staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide tours of the new building.
