Yukon observes ‘National Dental Health Month’

‘Gives Kids a Smile’ free exams Feb. 3-7; ‘Dental Health Day’ visits Feb. 4

Yukon Public Schools and members of the Yukon Dental Society are teaming up to provide Yukon students two exciting events in the month of February.

“Give Kids a Smile” will be Monday, Feb. 3 through Friday, Feb. 7 in Yukon.

Yukon Public Schools officials are excited to bring back, for its 18th year, the “Give Kids a Smile” program.

This national program is designed to make low-cost dental care available to children in need.

Parents or guardians of Yukon students, kindergarten through 12th grade, may call the YPS Helping Hands’ office from Feb. 3-7 to receive information on scheduling appointments for a free dental exam for their child.

Dental Health Day will be Tuesday, Feb. 4.

More than 24 local dentists from Yukon and Piedmont participate in this event by visiting first grade and special education classrooms at Yukon, Piedmont, St. John Nepomuk, Southwest Covenant, and Canadian Valley Christian Academy every year.

Following a demonstration of proper brushing techniques, each student is given a visual and oral screening and a note to parents with recommendations for the student’s future dental care, along with a free toothbrush.

For more information, call the YPS Helping Hands’ office at 354-3716.
