Yukon’s Miller and Millerette soccer teams will be looking for more of a challenge when they take the field for the annual Spring Thaw Festival.
The festival gets underway today with 10 teams competing on two fields.
The Millerettes open their day with a 9:30 a.m. match against Moore and the Millers face US Grant at 10:30 a.m.
The Millerettes take on Southmoore at 1:30 p.m. and the Millers Northwest Classen at 2:30 p.m. The teams wind up their day with Clinton. The Millerettes play at 5:30 p.m. and the Millers at 6:30 p.m. All YHS games are on the stadium field.
“The Thaw will be a tougher challenge for us,” YHS head coach Neil Hilton said. “Northwest Classen and Grant and those two games will tell us a lot about our team.
“We saw a lot of good things in our first tournament in Chickasha, but we know this one will be tougher,” he said. “These games will give us a good chance to see where we are after two tournaments and what we need to work on to get ready for the season, which starts in a couple of weeks.”
New Millerette head coach Danielle Tantillo is also looking for her team to be more challenged in their second outing. YHS scored 22 goals in the Chickasha Cup in five games.
“We know the competition will better this weekend than it was the first,” Tantillo said. “Hopefully we will be able to see where we stand against stronger competition.
“Everyday is a tryout right now and every girl knows they have an opportunity,” she said.
The rest of the schedule has Chickasha and Bethany girls playing at 7:30 a.m. and the Chickasha and Bethany boys at 8:30 a.m. Both games are on the stadium field.
Southmoore 2 plays McGuinness girls at 7:30 a.m. and Clinton 2 plays McGuinness boys at 8:30 a.m. on the south field.
