What has been a tough season for Yukon’s Millerettes could change in one night.
But first, the Millerettes will have to get past another tough challenge.
Yukon travels to Moore Thursday in the opening round of the class 6A Region IV Tournament.
The Millerettes have drawn No. 12 Midwest City in the opening round The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Moore High School.
The Millerettes, 8-14, will face a Lady Bomber team that comes in with a 15-7 record. Midwest City has won eight of their last 10 games and routed Lawton 60-20 in their last outing of the regular season.
The Millerettes come with having lost their last three, but took Mustang to the wire, 44-43, in their final regular season game.
YHS faces a team that is somewhat similar. Midwest City is a guard-oriented team that are aggressive, forces turnovers and plays solid defense
“Midwest City does play a similar style to us, they don’t pick up as much full court pressure as we do, but do pressure you man-to-man,” YHS head coach Roy Wyckoff said. “They do play hard and physical. Are a tough minded team and are real scrappy.
“They do have a couple of players that can shoot it well. It will be a tough challenge for us and we are excited about it for sure.”
The Lady Bombers are led by Kennadi Grant, a 5-7 junior guard. Midwest City does have some height, not as much as in the past, but relies more on quickness.
“We will have to be aware of where the Grant girl is,” he said. “They have a couple of guards that get in the paint well. We will have to be scrappy rebounding, defend at a high level and play harder than them.”
