OKLAHOMA CITY – Yukon ran into its toughest tournament of the opening week of the season just three days after playing their opener.
The Millerettes finished sixth in the Carl Albert Invitational at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
YHS had a runner-up finish, placed fourth, seventh and 13th on the day.
“It was more of a challenging tournament, but we didn’t play as well as we did in that first one,” Millerette head coach Dick Villaflor said. “Our one doubles played good, but our youth showed in some of the others.”
The No. 1 doubles team of Leah Hildebrand and Hannah Dillon took second, losing to Deer Creek in the finals, 6-0, 6-0. The team had lost to Deer Creek in the earlier tournament.
The Millerette pair were the No. 2 seed and opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Midwest City. The YHS duo posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over host Carl Albert, then beat Ada in the semifinals 6-3, 6-4 to play in the finals.
The No. 2 doubles team of Ella Stanley and Nathaly Perilla placed fourth, losing to Duncan in the third place match 6-4, 5-7, 10-5.
The Millerette duo opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Guthrie, then beat Ada 6-3, 6-2. In the semifinals, the team lost to Deer Creek 6-2, 6-0.
Haley Wolf placed seventh in No. 2 singles, beating Cora Hernandez of Midwest City 2-6, 6-2, 10-6. Wolf beat Abby Boedecker of Mustang 7-6, 6-1 in the opening round, but lost to Carl Albert 6-1, 6-3. She lost to Duncan 6-3, 6-0 in the consolation semifinals.
Aubrianna Corley placed 13th at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bella Lewis of Guthrie.
She lost her opening round to Olivia Stobbe of Shawnee 6-1, 6-1 and to Andrea Jones of Mustang 6-4, 1-6, 10-5. She then beat Addison Stiger of PC North 6-1, 6-0.
YHS travels to Owasso on Thursday.
