Due to a large turnout in Yukon for COVID-19 testing, the Canadian County Health Department is planning a Friday drive-thru location.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, people can bring a driver’s license and a cellphone, if handy, and be tested at Yukon Middle School, 801 Garth Brooks Blvd, said Maggie Jackson, the department’s spokeswoman.
On Tuesday, April 7, testing started at the office at 1023 E Vandament Ave. Testing also started in El Reno at 100 S Rock Island.
“We had an influx of appointments in Yukon and we had a waiting list of 50 people,” Jackson said.
Between April 7 and April 15 the Yukon office staff tested 90 people. In El Reno, 73 people were tested.
Jackson said no one will need any proof of insurance to be tested and people are asked to stay in their vehicles with windows rolled up when they arrive. If you have a cellphone, bring it, she said, and a number will be provided to call to talk to a nurse from the parking lot.
On Wednesday, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 2,263 cases of COVID-19 and 123 deaths.
In Canadian County, there have been 63 cases and 3 deaths.
