The Mabel C. Fry Public Library in Yukon reopens on Monday, according to a news release from the city of Yukon.

The children’s section will not reopen, however.

“In coming up with a plan to reopen the library, every attempt has been made to balance the service needs of the public with the safety needs of the public and the library staff. As we all know, in these uncertain times, things can change day to day,” the news release states.

The library will be open to the public from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a limit of 25 people in the building at one time. Masks are encouraged. Doors will be kept open, weather permitting, to allow people to avoid touching door handles.

During the pandemic, the library has had curbside materials for checkout for those who can drive and park curbside.

The release states that patrons are encouraged to continue to use the service.

Materials can be reserved through the online catalog or by calling the library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

People can pick up materials from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Book returns can be made in the outside book drops only. Books are removed daily, quarantined, cleaned and returned to the stacks on a set schedule.

“Unfortunately, the children’s area will be closed to the public. However, a “Grab and Go” shelf is available in the open side of the library. Parents or caregivers are encouraged to find items of interest to their children using the library catalog and a staff member will pull them from the shelves, or the staff will be happy to make selections for children. Just ask at the circulation desk!” the news release states.

A limited number of public access computers are available for use during operating hours. Copy and fax service are also available. Computers and work stations are cleaned after each use.

Anyone entering the library is encouraged to wear a mask or other type of cover on their mouth and nose and wash their hands in the public restroom and/or use hand sanitizer, which will be provided. The staff will wear masks.

The library telephone number is (405) 354-8232.
