For about six weeks, Davis Sloan walked outside for his daily exercise when he could.

He had been a regular walker inside the Jackie Cooper Gymnasium before the COVID-19 pandemic emergency orders shut down the gym and other facilities in Yukon.

Monday morning, Sloan was the first one to step inside the gym to walk 2 miles in laps around the basketball courts. He said 28 laps equals a mile. Only walking is allowed from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays under the new guidelines for use.

The gym and other buildings in Yukon reopened Monday. There are new regulations due to the coronavirus.

Basketball games are restricted to three players at one goal at a time. Equipment was sanitized by the staff after each use.

The Yukon Community Center, 2200 S Holly Ave. and the Mabel C Fry Public Library, 1200 Lakeshore Drive also reopened Monday.

People are asked to wear masks and use hand sanitizers in the buildings. The library is still offering drive-thru material checkouts.

Yukon city council members met Saturday and toured a number of reopened facilities and other city offices, operations and buildings.

The library, gymnasium and community center reopened Monday to the public with limited use restrictions due to COVID-19. Facilities were closed to the public in March.
