Nearly 300 Redlands Community College students were honored earlier this month during a virtual graduation ceremony. With the education they have received and the challenges they faced this spring, these graduates are prepared to continue their education at a four-year university or begin making an impact in the workforce. The class of 2020 also includes 57 nursing graduates, the largest number in over 10 years.

“We are so proud of these graduates who have persevered despite the obstacles they have faced, particularly in the past few months,” said Redlands President Jack Bryant.

In lieu of the traditional ceremony on campus, the college hosted a virtual graduation and launched a site featuring the graduates.

The video is available online at www.redlandscc.edu and includes words from Bryant and a commencement address from retiring Social Sciences department chair Mike Tabor.

“Graduation is a highlight not only for the students but for faculty and staff. We enjoy celebrating the accomplishments of so many and have greatly missed our traditional ceremony. It is our hope that our graduates know how much we care about them through our efforts to recognize their achievement,” added Bryant.

Graduate William Burchfield said, “I thought the virtual graduation ceremony was truly a good way to end the semester and was something I was proud to be a part of.”

In addition to profiles of graduates, the website includes the degrees earned as well as academic recognitions and names of those earning Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude and Cum Laude designation. Recipients of the President’s Award are Taryn Cook, Elizabeth Lette, Karmen Martinez, Chelsea Morgan, Natally Owen and Hannah N. Scarberry. All Oklahoma/All USA Academic Team member honorees are Casie Hamill and Catherine Huber.

“I want to thank the 2020 graduates for choosing Redlands,” said Tabor. “Remember to get out of your comfort zone, don’t limit yourself, work hard, listen and communicate, and take action. I wish the graduates the very best in the future.”
