Police in the residential Westgate area have been investigating a spike in vehicle burglaries near Yukon, said Master Sgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City police spokesman.

The area is from W Reno Avenue to SW 29 and between Mustang and Cemetery roads, Knight said.

The Westgate addition near N Czech Hall Road and SW 15 and the surrounding area has had a rash of break-ins reported. There have been 9 vehicle burglaries for the month of May, Knight said.

“That is a little bit high,” Knight said.

In Yukon, Maj. John Brown said police have not had an increase in vehicle break-ins for May.

People should remember to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving any valuables inside. If anything is left in a locked vehicle it should be in the trunk or covered up. People should not leave their wallet or purse in vehicles, Knight said.

Wallets and purses are the most frequent targets for those breaking into vehicles, Knight said.
