Core Country brought out the crowd with classic country favorites on June 18 for a great toe tappin’ event.

The second of the City of Yukon’s free weekly live-music summer series, Concerts in the Park, featured a live band in the gazebo, and food trucks, on Thursday, June 18, at Chisholm Trail Park, 500 W. Vandament Avenue, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A swelling crowd brought blankets and lawn chairs, braved the heat, and spread across the park. Music lovers were definitely keeping their social distance, and some wore masks.

The band Core Country gained its name by being country to the core. Ken Collins, who plays pedal steel guitar, founded the band n the late 1990s. Collins acted in and directed most of the popular Jude and Jody shows back in the day. The group includes lead singer Wilton O’Neil, drummer Gary Weathers, lead guitar Larry Kent, and vocalist Gary Sanders who is a fiddler.
