Demonstrators Lazaro Ecenarro, Belinda Barker and Timothy Harper showed their support for District 43 State Rep. Jay Steagall, R-Yukon, on Aug. 5 outside Yukon City Hall on the southwest corner of Fifth and Main.
Ecenarro said they were standing for people’s constitutional rights and showing opposition to what he called Yukon’s “illegal” mask mandate.

Rep. Steagall has challenged Yukon Mayor Shelli Selby’s emergency proclamation that requires restaurant and bar workers to wear face masks due to COVID-19 concerns.
Selby recently filed a police report claiming the state legislator has harassed and threatened her.
Ecenarro asked if Yukon’s mayor “can file harassment charges” against Rep. Steagall, what does that mean for a citizen who wants to practice their constitutional rights? He said elected officials should respect people’s right to disagree while respecting “different points of view.”
