Doris Jean (Novak) Cornwell, 88, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Spanish Cove Retirement Village in Yukon, OK.
She was born September 12, 1931, starting her life on a farm in Spearman, TX, where she attended grade school. When she was 11 years old, her daddy surprised her with a beautiful piano. She loved to play the piano and became a very accomplished pianist.
Her family moved to Yukon where she attended Yukon High School and met the love of her life, Bill Cornwell. They were both presidents of their classes, Bill was captain of the football team and crowned Doris football queen, and they had matching motorcycles. They continued to enjoy their lives together for 51 years. Doris later married Jim Rollans. They shared their love for music by attending the Grand Ole Opry.
Doris always wanted to be present with the people she loved at the First Christian Church, whether it was in Bible study, singing in the choir or enjoying food and fellowship. Doris was also a beautiful seamstress and knitter.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Novak; mother, Frances Novak Yanda; stepfather, Ben Yanda; husband, Bill Cornwell; brother and wife, Frank and Jan Novak; brother, Earl Novak; son, Steve and wife Nena Cornwell, and grandson, Patrick Cornwell.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Shirley and husband Doy Davis; son, Pat and wife Mary Cornwell; sister-in-law, Bobbie Novak Underwood and husband Mel, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the First Christian Church, 601 Maple, Yukon, OK.
