Hubert “Herb” Driskill, 71, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK after a lengthy illness. He was born October 8, 1949 in Lindsay, OK, to Hubert and Barbara Driskill.
Herb spent his youth near Lindsay, OK, playing baseball and basketball at Hughes High School near Lindsay, OK, and cutting broomcorn and hauling hay for spending money.
Upon graduation, he attended East Central University in Ada, OK, and then joined the U.S. Air Force on January 20, 1969. During his 22 years in the Air Force, he spent time in Viet Nam, the Philippines, and Thailand with TDY’s all over the world. He enjoyed his career as an Inflight Refueling Specialist, or “boom operator.” Friendships he made in the Air Force were strong and continued throughout his entire life. Upon retirement on July 31, 1991, at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, Herb worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Oklahoma City until retirement in January 2016. Herb received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern Illinois and a Master’s Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK.
Herb loved to fly his airplanes, ride his Harley, cruise, and just spend time at Page Airport with his very good friends there, the “Page Bums.” He loved his friends at the airport and from the Air Force like brothers and would spend every day at Page Airport or would drive all over the United States to be with his Air Force buddies. He especially loved his grandchildren, spending time babysitting and sneaking them candy. He was loved by all who came across his path and will be dearly missed.
