The Jackie Cooper Gymnasium opened Wednesday for people who needed heat or electricity in Yukon.

Thursday afternoon, 7,304 customers of Oklahoma Gas & Electric. Co. remained without power in Yukon, according to the company’s website.

Quincy Rinkle, Superintendent at the Jackie Cooper Gymnasium, said Wednesday he did not know how long the gym would be opened, but it would be as long as needed.

“Right now we have the Jackie Cooper Gym opened for people to come in if they are cold or if they don’t have power they can come in” Rinkle said. We’ve got a warm spot for them.”

“We don’t know how long we are going to stay open as far as that goes but we’re going to make sure we do our best to make sure that people are not put out in the cold and have a place to go,” Rinkle said.

The Jackie Cooper Gymnasium is located at 1024 E. Main Street.

On Friday, Yukon City Hall will close at noon. The building has been running on a generator that is needed at other city buildings over the weekend. City Hall will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
