Laura Lynn (Wilson) Beck
Laura Lynn (Wilson) Beck, 65, was born Aug. 13, 1955 in Sulphur, OK and passed away Nov. 23, 2020 at home surrounded by her family.
Laura fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer for nearly two years. Her family often referred to her as the “fighting Doty girl.”
Laura met her future husband, Robert Beck, in 1977, while attending East Central State University in Durant.
She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and a minor in Physical Education from Central State University in Edmond.
After graduation, Laura expressed her passion for serving others through a long teaching career with Oklahoma City Public Schools.
Her reputation as a student advocate ignited as she never shied away from ensuring the best services for her students.
Laura personally provided computers in her classroom, taught lessons in daily living skills and even bought cotton candy at the circus for all students – not just her own.
She retired from teaching in 2006.
Laura’s interests included dogs, birds, plants, and ice. She set the example for her children, teaching them positive morals and values.
Laura will always be loved and remembered for her vivacious smile and her love of her family and friends.   Anyone one who has been hugged, grabbed or punched by Laura knew that her love hurt.
She put an arrow in Robert’s heart when she met him and then one when she went to see the Lord.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Leonard Wilson and Laura Gertrude (Doty) Wilson; brothers, Bill Don and Henry, and two other brothers who died in infancy; sisters, Mary, Sandra and Thelma; and son-in-law Andre.
Survivors are: Husband Robert Beck of Yukon; daughters, Aubrey Patton of Mustang and Blankarosa Benkie of Yukon; son Ryan Beck of Yukon; granddaughter Harmony Patton of Mustang; grandsons, Taylor Benkie of Elk City, Chance Patton of Mustang, and Ryker and Liam Beck of Yukon; great-grandchildren, Noah, Gracie and Marle Reyes of Elk City; sister Charlotte Mixon of Atoka; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
