The manufacturing plant for Hardtimes Real Beef Jerky, located at 3533 Jensen Road East in El Reno, may be a well-kept secret. But owner J.W. Tennery has not only taken jerky to a new level, he’s also blanketed the nation with his brand.
With the mottos “Soooo Darn Good” and “A Toothpick in Every Bag,” Tennery said his products are “sold all over the country. We have distributors in states all over the place.”
Tennery sells a myriad of jerky products including Original Beef Jerky Chew; Beef Jerky Jars; Beef Jerky Bags that include flavors such as Black Pepper Beef Jerky, Hot Beef Jerky, Original Beef Jerky, and Teriyaki Beef Jerky; samplers; and gifts such as T-shirts and koozies.
Hardtimes’ jerky products have numerous claims to fame. The meat is 100% all American beef, with no imports. It’s handcrafted in small batches, is sliced rather than pressed, and it’s made from high quality, hand-trimmed, beef.
It’s not pressed, ground beef. The products are low carb and have no MSG added.
And the company uses the best ingredients for their marinades.
A native Oklahoman, Tennery grew up in Delhi, a small community southwest of Sayre.
“I had a custom processing plant for beef, hogs, whatever, in Oklahoma,” Tennery said. “My daughter was making jerky out of rump roasts and she wasn’t doing it right. But that’s how we started. And it grew from there. We couldn’t make enough of it. A plant in El Reno came up for sale and I bought it, and the business took off. God has been good to us.”
Now Tennery and his son, Shawn Tennery, are running the family business.
But Tennery said, “Shawn has pretty much taken it over and he’s doing a great job.”
You’re likely to find Tennery’s jerky at all kinds of retail venues, including OnCue and 7-Eleven.
“God has really blessed us,” said Tennery.
“He’s been so good to me that it’s unreal. You better get God in your life, and do it quickly.”
