Surrey Hills Baptist Church, located at 12421 N. Mustang Road, in the subdivision of Surrey Hills, is decked out and ready for the Christmas season. The church administrative assistant for three years, Judy Austin and three volunteers decorated the sanctuary, foyer, and other areas of the church
Austin said, “I’ve been decorating here for four years. The church pays for the decorations, except for what I buy. But the church has been decorating for Christmas as long as I can remember. The decorator in me has never stopped, from owning the flower shop. I just love to do it. It’s the talent God gave me.”
During the Christmas season, the church is taking offerings for the annual Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. A missions organization, the funds raised globally go to support international Christian missions endeavors.
For the Christmas season, Surrey Hills Baptist will have a Christmas Eve service. The time will be announced on the church web site and Facebook page. Due to COVID, all church services are on line and Facebook. But people may also attend in person. The church has arranged sanctuary seating for social distancing. And the church staff, as well as worshippers, wear masks.
Sunday morning service is held at 10:30 a.m. On Wednesday nights, the church offers the AWANA program, a youth program, and a Bible study at 6 p.m.
As well, King’s Gate Christian School is housed in the church. The accredited school is available for ages 12 months through 12th grade.
“We just invite everyone,” Austin said. “Or let us know if they need us. We’re open to everyone.”
“Our pastor, Wendell Long, ends every service by saying ‘Wherever you go, whatever you do, say a good word for Jesus,’” said Austin.
