Irene Belle Smith

Irene Belle Smith

Irene Belle Smith, aged 86, beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, Mamaw, and friend to all who knew her went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, December 10, 2020.  Irene was born to parents Leonard Belle and Mabel Grace (Lawson) Kimery on September 15, 1934 in McCloud, Oklahoma.  She spent most of her childhood in Geary, Oklahoma with her parents, brothers and sisters.

Irene was married to her soulmate, William Jerome Smith of Yukon, Oklahoma, for 45 years.  Together, they had five children:  Steve Camp, Cliff Smith, Sherri Mancill, Letha Camp and Carolyn Smith.  Family was everything to Irene.  She took great pride and joy in her children, 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson…never passing up an opportunity to talk about them or show their pictures to friends.

Irene was a professional seamstress, making the most beautiful ball gowns, wedding dresses, rodeo costumes and prom dresses that could be imagined.  She also loved quilting, gardening, and being Jerome’s right hand on the farm/ranch.  Her favorite time of year was foaling season…she loved welcoming all the new babies to the ranch.  She loved bluegrass music and traveling to bluegrass festivals was one of her favorite pastimes with Jerome.  Irene was always up for adventure.  Whatever idea Jerome came up with, Irene was ready!  Whether it was wagon rides across the state, stage coach and buggy rides or pioneer day re-enactments, she was on board and all in.  And of course, she made all of their wardrobe pieces for the re-enactments!

Irene was dedicated to the Lord and to her church.  She always went out of her way to help anyone in need or hurting.  She had the gifts of comfort, grace and care that were felt by so many…whether it was through the many funeral dinners that she coordinated, phone calls that she made “just to check on you,” her hugs, or her sweet smile and soft squeeze of your hand.  Irene showed Jesus wherever she went.  She was the absolute definition of Grace.  Irene will be missed greatly here on Earth, but what an amazing Christmas it will be in Heaven!

Irene was preceded to Heaven by her husband, William Jerome Smith, her precious daughter, Letha Irene Camp, her parents, Leonard Belle and Mabel Grace Kimery, her brothers Daniel Kimery and Kenneth Kimery, and her sisters Lillian Wright, Imogene Cripps, Cletta Hillerby, and Irene’s twin sister, Darlene Pickard.

Irene is survived by many who look forward to the day they will see her again, including her sister Carolyn Thomas of Weatherford; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Barbara Camp of Oklahoma City; son and daughter-in-law Cliff and Beverly Smith of Thomas, daughter Sherri Mancill of McKinney, Texas; and daughter Carolyn Smith of Coalgate.  She is also survived by her grandchildren:  Stephanie and Martin Andraszek of Yukon; Kelly Camp of Yukon; Dusty and Jeff Oldenburg of Mulhall; LaRena and Brad Casey of Thomas; Emily Camp of Yukon; JW and Tawni Briscoe of Hinton; Amanda and John Hurlbut of McKinney, Texas; Jerome Paul and Dia Smith of Hinton; Nicki and Jonathan Walden of Coalgate; and Jesse Jaques of Coalgate.  Irene is also survived by her “quiver full” of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and her great-great grandson.  What a legacy she leaves behind!
