Parents of Yukon’s high school seniors have less than two weeks to apply for college scholarship money provided by Yukon business leaders.

Applications are due 5 p.m. Monday, April 5 for members of the Class of 2021 interested in getting some financial help as they further their education beyond high school.

These annual scholarships – provided by the Yukon Chamber of Commerce – will help students kick-start their post-secondary careers after graduation this May.

This scholarship offer is open to graduating seniors at both Yukon High School and Southwest Covenant High School. Applicants must be enrolling in an accredited college or career technical school.

To be eligible, the student must work for a Yukon Chamber member or be the child or grandchild of a Yukon Chamber member. Applicants must be 21 years or under.

Yukon’s 2021 seniors are being encouraged to apply for this valuable benefit made possible by members of the local business community.

“We decided to again offer five scholarship this year because of the value this is to our future,” Yukon Chamber CEO Pam Shelton said.

WHAT TO DO

YHS and SWCS seniors who want to receive a 2021 Yukon Chamber Scholarship are required to submit or postmark a completed scholarship application by the 5 p.m. April 5 deadline.

All applicants will be evaluated on their academic achievement, work, extra-curricular activities, and a written essay.

Applications may be mailed or dropped off at the Yukon Chamber office, 10 W Main – Suite 130 in Yukon.

In each of the past two years, the Yukon Chamber has awarded five $1,000 scholarships.

Four YHS seniors and one SWCS senior were awarded chamber scholarships in May 2020 after applications and essays were submitted by 14 students.

Last year’s scholarship recipients were David DeLoera, University of Central Oklahoma; Lois Garner, Southwestern Oklahoma State University; Hattie Hughs, Oklahoma State University; Kylie Moseley, Oral Roberts University; and Cody Watson, Missouri Western State University.

Monies raised from various annual Yukon Chamber events support the scholarship fund.
