Formal charges are pending against a Moore teen accused of shooting a woman to death south of Yukon before leading officers on a pursuit.

Javier Lewis, 18, was booked at 8:17 a.m. April 19 into the Canadian County Jail on complaints of first-degree murder and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

Lewis is accused of killing Emilia Koteen, 38, at a home in the 12000 block of S.W. 15th Terrace.

Oklahoma City Police responded at 12:43 a.m. April 19 to the shooting.

Officers arriving at the scene found the deceased shooting victim, later identified as Koteen.

“Ms. Koteen was shot and killed in her driveway after the suspect, Javier Lewis, had fired shots at another family member,” Oklahoma City Police MSgt. Gary Knight said.

The victim apparently was shot to death when she went outside after hearing the gunfire, according to Knight.

After the shooting, Lewis fled the area but was spotted a short time later near I-240 and Western by an officer from the Oklahoma City Police Violent Crimes Apprehension Team (VCAT).

Officers tried to pull Lewis’ vehicle over, but he refused to stop and led police on a chase.

While trying to evade capture, the suspect allegedly rammed a police car with his vehicle.

Oklahoma City Police eventually took Lewis into custody near S.W. 44th and Western before he was arrested and booked into jail.

The Canadian County District Attorney’s Office will consider filing formal criminal charges against Lewis.

Koteen’s shooting death was the 25th homicide investigated by the Oklahoma City Police Department in 2021.
