Top scholars distinguished by white robes at YHS graduation

A special group of Yukon High School seniors will be distinguished by the white robes they wear for Friday night’s graduation ceremony.

The YHS Class of 2021 has 14 valedictorians, who will distinguished among the many red robes and white robes worn by fellow graduates.

YHS class valedictorians are: Arysa Puckett, Rebecca George, Jeffrey Armstrong, Joclynn Bristow, Greyson Horst, David Lu, Quynh Nguyen, Cassandra Penick, Jerry Richardson, Kathrine Saxton, Lana Sherry, Ella Stanley, Bailee Thompson, and Kaylee Witte.

Yukon’s graduation program starts at 7 p.m. Friday, May 21 at Miller Stadium on the YHS campus, 1777 S Yukon Parkway.

Some 557 seniors are due to receive their diplomas during the outdoor commencement on the football field.

In his annual congratulatory letter, YPS Superintendent Dr. Jason Simeroth offered well wishes to all YHS graduating seniors as they take their steps into a much larger world:

“No matter what positions of responsibility our students will aspire to, or where their travels may take them … we want them all to know that Yukon will always be their home!”

There are contingency plans in case of rain Friday night.

YHS graduation could be pushed back to 10 a.m., 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. Saturday. The ceremony will be livestreamed with a link available on Yukon Public Schools’ Facebook page.

ARYSA WILL ADDRESS CROWD

The group selected Arysa Puckett to speak at Friday’s graduation.

The 14 YHS class valedictorians qualified for this honor based on their performance in Advanced Placement (AP) classes, ACT/SAT scores and grade point average.

YHS seniors who have weighted 4.0 grade point averages will wear black robes at the graduation ceremony.

And National Honor Society members will be distinguished by the blue collars they wear. Students are selected to the National Honor Society based on academic success and community service.

Other speakers at Yukon’s upcoming graduation will be YHS Student Council President Rebecca George and YHS Senior Class President Cade Pope.

Other class officers are: Vice President Adrian Charquero, Treasurer Wendy Pina and Secretary Camdyn Terry.

Each YHS graduating senior received eight tickets for family and friends to attend Friday’s commencement.
