Two back-to-school traditions return soon to Yukon.

Yukon’s New Teacher Luncheon and The Breakfast are back after a COVID-19 break in 2020. The first day of the 2021-22 school year is Thursday, Aug. 12 in Yukon.

The New Teacher Luncheon and The Breakfast will help greet Yukon school personnel as they return to local school sites and prepare to greet students.

Presented by the Yukon Chamber of Commerce, the New Teacher Luncheon will be 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 inside Events at 10 West Main.

All new Yukon teachers will be celebrated at this much-anticipated event. Yukon businesses and organizations have contributed “swag” items for some 125 new teacher bags presented during the festivities.

School principals will introduce their newly hired certified staff to the business community at the luncheon.

New teachers will be honored from Yukon Public Schools, Southwest Covenant Schools, St. John Nepomuk Catholic School, and Canadian Valley Technology Center.

Chamber members are encouraged to attend to give Yukon’s new teachers the proverbial “hero’s welcome”.

Also returning to help kick off Yukon’s 2021-22 school year will be The Breakfast, which marks its 20th anniversary in 2021.

While the New Teacher Luncheon is strictly for the new teachers, The Breakfast honors all Yukon Public Schools’ employees – from bus drivers and cafeteria workers to counselors and classroom teachers.

The 20th back-to-school appreciation breakfast for all YPS staff members will be staged at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9 at Yukon High School, 1777 S Yukon Parkway.

Sponsors are needed for tables of six, eight, nine, or 12 people. Sponsorships cover the costs of breakfast for YPS personnel and school district shirts.
