It was the first day of school Thursday in the Yukon district, and cellphone pictures, hugs and kisses were not hard to find in front of building front doors.
Classes are now back session in the Yukon Public Schools district.
Classes at Ralph A. Myers Elementary School and at other sites in the Yukon district had a late start of 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Normal start time will be 7:30 a.m. beginning Monday.
Classes are in-person five days a seek and masks are not required this year in Yukon.
Kalee Dimmick held her son’s hand Collin Dimmick, 6, as he walked up the sidewalk of Myers, 1200 S. First Street, with about 10 minutes to spare before the bell.
Collin made a few funny faces for the camera and went into his first day of kindergarten.
Another kindergarten student also walked up for the first day. Liam Butler, 5, was with Torian Butler.
‘It’s his first day of kindergarten,” Torian Butler said. “What do think? Are you excited? Nervous?,” Torian Butler asked Liam. Liam did not reply.
“Speechless,” Torian Butler said.
Parents stopped outside the front doors of the school to take cellphone pictures of their children before leaving them for the school day.
Cassie Emory, Joslyn, 5, Cerys, 3, and Jeremy Forrest and Jamie Norton, took Joslyn to her first day of kindergarten at Myers.
Over 9,000 students are enrolled in Yukon schools this fall.
