Vera Pearce

On November 3, 2021, Vera Pearce passed away from this life at the age of 96 surrounded by her family. Vera was born May 16, 1925 in Liverpool, England and endured much in those 96 years. She was born to Stanley and Lily (Minett) Green and was one of six children. She lost her mother at the young age of seven. As a teenager, she survived WWII, enduring multiple German bombings, V1 and V2 rockets and strict food and clothing rationing. She found love and married Robert Henry Pearce on June 16, 1945. With rationing still in place, Vera’s wedding cake was made possible with eggs, flour and sugar coupons donated by her loving family. From this union came two children: Beryl and Robert. In 1952, the family moved to the United States; first making their home in New Orleans before settling in Oklahoma City.

Vera was a homemaker and took wonderful care of the children and the home. Her husband, Robert, died at an early age in 1969 and Vera and the children were alone. Vera had faced difficult times as a young girl and this was no different. She gained employment as a chiropractor’s assistant and worked there well into her 70s. Vera was shy as a young girl but when she joined the workforce, she never met a stranger and was a friend to all. She was a great storyteller, generous and loving mother and friend. Vera enjoyed her traditional English tea, scones, and those who would partake with her. She kept her mind sharp by reading books and doing crossword puzzles.

When she was 90, she moved in with her son Robert and daughter-in-law Becky and the time they shared was priceless and included much love and laughter.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Henry Pearce, and daughter Beryl Brannon. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Robert Alan Pearce and wife Becky of Oklahoma City, forever son-in-law John Brannon and wife Susan of Oklahoma City; granddaughters Nicole Pearce, Tonya Rikli and Tiffany Rikli, and grandson Dallas Mahoney, great grandchildren Dakota, Alexis and Jordyn and great great grandchildren Elizabeth and Alexander, siblings Stanley Green and wife Cynthia of Hertford, England, Harry Green and wife Annette of Grappenhall, Cheshire, England, Joan Bennett and husband Alan Bennett of Conahs Quay, Wales, Mary Johnson of Cheshire, England, Margaret McGuigan of Milton Keynes, England; 9 nieces; 4 nephews and her close friends and adopted family who loved her dearly.

The family will receive friends at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 9.

A service to celebrate Vera’s life will be 2 pm, Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
