Over the past few years, one group of civic-minded volunteers has collected snacks for Yukon students to devour during the yuletide season.
The Yukon Chamber Ambassadors and Yukon Sharing have joined forces for the “Winter Snack Pack Drive.” Volunteers will deliver a copious quantity of snacks to YPS school sites in time for some serious snacking.
An anonymous donor purchased many of the snacks for this year’s project, which will benefit about 260 YPS students.
“In collaboration with Yukon Sharing and the Yukon Chamber Ambassadors, they have received over 8,000 items to put in these kids’ snack bags,” Yukon Chamber CEO Pam Shelton said.
“We will distribute them to the schools the week before Christmas, so they’ll have Christmas snacks.”
Recipients of the Winter Snack Pack Drive will be YPS elementary and secondary students eligible for free and reduced lunches.
Yukon Sharing volunteers and chamber ambassadors met recently to sort all the donated snacks.
“We have a variety,” said Shelton, a Yukon Sharing board member. “We have sweet and salty snacks, along with milk and juice boxes, and hot chocolate.”

INTEGRAL GROUP
The Yukon Chamber of Commerce has about 25 ambassadors, who promote and represent the organization in the local business community.
The ambassadors, chaired by Lynn North, participate in philanthropic and educational projects that support Yukon.
This volunteer group normally meets on the second Friday each month.
Besides the Winter Snack Pack Drive, the Yukon Chamber Ambassadors help with annual events like the Yukon New Teachers Luncheon, Yukon Yuletide Express, Yukon Chamber Gala, and Yukon Chamber Golf Classic.
“We couldn’t do what we do without them,” Shelton said.
