High winds shut down Christmas in the Park Wednesday

Yukon light display expected to reopen Thursday night

Due to the high winds, the Yukon light display at Chisholm Trail Park will be closed Wednesday night, a City of Yukon spokeswoman reports.

“The high winds today are causing some of our displays to come loose,” said Jenna Roberson. “It pains us to do this, but for the public’s safety we are closing Christmas in the Park tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 15.

On Wednesday night, patchy, blowing dust is expected before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 39. South southwest wind 18 to 23 mph becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph, the National Weather Service reported.

A few power outages in the Yukon area have been reported Wednesday afternoon. Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. reported about 400 outages in Oklahoma City Wednesday afternoon.

Christmas in the Park is expected to be reopened Thursday night.
