Three more vendors are needed for Yukon’s “sweet” pre-Valentine’s Day tradition.

After being on hiatus in 2021 due to COVID-19, the Yukon Chocolate Festival is back for a 10th year.

Presented by Yukon Parks & Recreation and the Ladies Library Club, the festivities will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Dale Robertson Center, 1200 Lakeshore.

The event will feature 20 vendor booths and a silent auction of baked goods and gift baskets – just in time for Valentine’s Day. Awards will be presented for the best-tasting chocolate and best booth décor.

Sara Schieman, librarian at the Mabel C. Fry Public Library, was asked what types of chocolate will be offered Feb. 5.

“There will be fudge, cake pops, truffles, brownies, ice cream, cupcakes, and molded candy pops,” Schieman revealed.

“All the ladies of the Ladies Library Club will be baking and will have an assortment of yummy things. One is chocolate popcorn.”

All vendors have been asked to bring small handmade chocolate “taste samples” for 375-400 servings.

“Everybody just loves chocolate,” Schieman declared. “You can bring your sweetie. Whether your ‘valentine’ is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, kids, or grandkids.

“It’s just a fun time.”

Advance tickets to the Yukon Chocolate Festival are $12.50 each and include 10 treat samples per ticket.

Tickets will be $15 each the day of the event.

“Obviously COVID numbers are way up,” Schieman pointed out. “We’ve cut down on our number of vendors this year just because it does get so crowded, and we want people to be as safe as possible.”

Festival proceeds will support Yukon park renovations and Yukon’s public library.

This is one of the Ladies Library Club’s two annual fundraisers, the other being its Christmas Silent Auction.

“They’re always there when we need something that the budget doesn’t quite cover,” Librarian Schieman pointed out. “They’ve helped purchase artwork in our children’s area and provided supplemental funding for our summer reading program and to buy books.”

Joining Schieman on the Ladies Library Club’s Chocolate Festival committee are Genie Vinson, Ashleigh McClung, Margarete Albrecht, Lee Wells, Penny Budzien, and Una Belle Townsend.

Individuals, businesses and organizations are welcome to host a booth for the Feb. 5th Yukon Chocolate Fest.
