There will not be a Canadian County Fair Board election on Saturday, Feb. 12 after three candidates filed unopposed for the next term.

And those three candidates are all incumbents, who will be elected to the next three-year term on the nine-member fair board.

Justin Atkinson

The Canadian County Fair Board is comprised of volunteers who oversee the county’s fair events and facilities.

There are nine members, three representing each county commissioner district.

Filing to retain their seats during the recent candidate filing period were:

  • District 1: El Reno’s Justin Atkinson, 42
  • District 2: Mustang’s Ken Carpenter, 59
  • District 3: Calumet’s Dan Wedman, 70

The three Canadian County Fair Board incumbents each filed on Jan. 24, the first day of a five-day filing period at the Canadian County Clerk’s Office, 201 N Choctaw.

Dan Wedman

After no other candidate filed, Atkinson, Carpenter and Wedman were re-elected to new terms. Elections had been set at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 had there been any contested seat.

Only registered voters of Canadian County are eligible to serve on the fair board. Anyone who files must live in the commissioner’s district they seek to represent.

There are no term limits on the Canadian County Fair Board and several members have served more than a decade.

Other members are Kelly Beck of Yukon, Clint Reuter of El Reno, Michael Beard of Calumet, Phil Carson of Yukon, Brent Hunt of El Reno, and Mike Crowly of Oklahoma City.

Officers will be elected at the next Canadian County Fair Board meeting set Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Other regular meetings in 2022 will be Tuesday, May 3; Thursday, July 21; and Thursday, Oct. 27.

The Canadian County Fair Board is responsible for operations at the Canadian County Expo & Event Center (campus #1), 3001 Jensen Road East; and the old fairgrounds (campus #2), 220 N Country Club Road.

The nine-member panel plans and presents the Canadian County Fair and spring youth livestock show at these El Reno venues.

The 50th Annual Canadian County Junior Livestock Show will be Feb. 26 through March 4.

Canadian County’s 68th Annual Free Fair will be presented during the week of Aug. 22-27.
